May 3, 2011: Stolen Superman Plaque Found

A plaque honoring Superman's co-creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster which was stolen a few weeks ago from a post on St. Clair Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio has now been recovered.

Superman Homepage member Jamie Reigle, who is a founding member of the Siegel and Shuster Society, informs me that the plaque was recovered and turned in on Monday. It's thought that the plaque was stolen because thieves thought it was made out of bronze, when in fact it is only brown aluminum.

"Thanks to everyone who spread the word and helped us get this landmark back!" exclaimed Reigle.

The city put up the plaque in 2003, the 65th anniversary of the release of "Action Comics #1", telling the story of how Siegel and Shuster created one of the most recognizable fictional characters in the world.

It's unknown at this point in time whether the same plaque will be returned to the post it was positioned on, or whether a new one will be created to correct a spelling error that appeared on the original.
