March 24, 2011: Edgar Ramirez or Michael Shannon to Play Superman Villain?

With Zack Snyder confirming that Viggo Mortensen would not be in the up-coming Superman movie, LatinoReview.com claims to have received word that Edgar Ramirez (The Bourne Ultimatum) is being looked at to play a villain in the new movie.

Now at press time, I don't know if it's for General Zod or another villain role. The secrecy surrounding this project is that tight. I also don't personally know if Edgar auditioned, or his name is simply being tossed around, or the producers have gotten into it with Edgar's reps.

While Deadline.com claim that Michael Shannon (Jonah Hex, Revolutionary Road) is also being considered.

I'm told there's interest in Michael Shannon. Shannon is coming off a memorable first season in HBO's Boardwalk Empire, and he turned in a strong performance in Take Shelter, which Sony Pictures Classics acquired at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. Neither the studio nor Shannon's reps were helpful.
